You can create a party with friends and then go online together in the same server –That doesn’t make it a party game. After all, Baldur’s Gate is not a party game either, despite “You must gather your party before venturing forth”. Party game! = Game party.
What is often understood by a party game is a game that is easy to participate in all in the same room. Good examples: Among Us (free on the smartphone), games from Jackbox Games (on a TV + smartphones), easy to pick up games that you can play locally in split / shared screen with / against each other on a PC / console,. ..
Fall Guys is not really a traditional party game because everyone in a company has to purchase the game individually. That puts the barrier to playing it ‘just like that’ during a ‘party’. Everyone also needs their own PC or console, which in order to just conjure up during a random party further increases the threshold. And no, a LAN party does not turn every game that your multiplayer can play into a party game.
The only thing Fall Guys has is that the gameplay is simple. The rest is against calling it a party game.
