The thirteen other defendants, all suspected of having acquired false certificates, work in establishments open to the public, such as hospitals and retirement homes, the prosecutor’s statement said.

“We will continue to protect public health in New York by initiating investigations like this, but the stakes of fake vaccination cards are too high to tackle them with piecemeal procedures,” said the prosecutor.

“We need companies like Facebook to take action to prevent fraud happening on their platforms. Making, selling and buying fake vaccination cards are serious crimes with serious consequences for public safety, ”added Cyrus Vance.
