Arnaldo Chamorro told reporters on Thursday that he was fired as the agriculture minister’s chief of staff on Wednesday after signing a memorandum with “officials” of the “United States of Kailash” who told him it was an island in South America.
“They (the “officials”) came and expressed their desire to help Paraguay. They presented several projects, we listened to them, and it happened,” Chamorro said, admitting that he had been fooled.
Chamorro said these fake officials also met with Agriculture Minister Carlos Jimenez. The motive for their actions is unknown.
The memorandum signed by both parties envisaged the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two “countries”.
In a document signed on ministry letterhead with an official stamp, Chamorro hailed “the Venerable Nithyananda Paramashivam, Ruler of the United States of Kailasa” and praised his “contribution to Hinduism, humanity and the Republic of Paraguay”.
The memorandum recommended that “the Government of Paraguay actively consider the establishment of diplomatic relations with the United States of Kailash and support its admission as a sovereign state to various international organizations, including the United Nations.”
Paraguayan media reported that this “Paramashivam” is actually an Indian national wanted for crimes committed in his country.
In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture regretted the “procedural errors” and acknowledged that the memorandum “cannot be considered official” or imply any commitment to the Paraguayan state.
