Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Indonesian men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto acknowledged the superiority of Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin after losing in the semifinals Japan Open 2023 at Yoyogi Stadium, Tokyo, Saturday (29/7).
Fajar/Rian lost two straight games in 36 minutes. The first seed in the 2023 Japan Open lost 19-21 and 10-21 to Lee/Wang.
Rian admitted that Lee/Wang deserved to win and qualify for the 2023 Japan Open final because they played better. Fajar/Rian were unable to keep up with the speed and power of the 2020 Olympic champion.
“It’s not the result we wanted, in terms of playing we admit that Lee/Wang were better today. They have extraordinary speed and power,” said Rian in the official PBSI release.
Meanwhile Fajar Alfian said he and Rian had tried various ways to balance Lee/Wang’s game, but the doubles from Taiwan were in their best performance.
“The opponent kept pressing us and we couldn’t get out of that pressure. We’ve tried several ways from drive to defense but they can still anticipate. Very aggressive,” said Fajar.
“Lee/Wang are not new players. They are Olympic gold medalists. In terms of achievements and games, every player must have ups and downs, and now they are starting to rise again and that’s normal. Moreover, everyone wants to appear in the Olympics next year. This is what We have to be aware of and learn from all opponents,” said Fajar.
Until this news was published, Indonesia still had two representatives who would compete in the semifinals of the 2023 Japan Open, namely Jonatan Christie and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
