Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto stopped in the quarterfinals Badminton Asia Championships 2023. They were defeated by Malaysian representatives, Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi.
In the round of 16 match at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Al Nasr Club, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Friday (28/4/2023) evening WIB, Fajar/Rian had to admit Ong/Teo’s superiority in two straight games with a score of 20- 22, 15-21.
Fajar/Rian immediately raced to a 6-1 lead in the first game. They then reached the interval with an 11-4 lead.
After the interval, Fajar/Rian lost their lead. Ong/Teo won five straight points to level the score at 15-15.
Ong/Teo reached the game point first at 20-17. Fajar/Rian were then able to win three consecutive points to force a setting battle. However, they made a series of mistakes that gave Ong/Teo the win in the first game.
Fajar/Rian started the second game well by winning 7-2. However, they later overtook and were actually overtaken by Ong/Teo.
After trailing 9-11 at the interval, Fajar/Rian made several unforced errors. After trailing 12-18, Fajar/Rian found it difficult to catch up. They eventually lost 15-21 after Fajar failed to return the opponent’s smash.
