Faithless singer Maxi Jazz (65) has died

Faithless singer Maxi Jazz died last night at the age of 65. The band reports it on Facebook.

“The news that Maxi Jazz passed away last night breaks our hearts. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave a definition and a message to our music,” Rollo and Sister Bliss say in the Facebook post.

With their mix of trip hop, hip hop, pop, club and progressive trance, Faithless dominated the international charts in the 90s. In 1995 they immediately hit the mark with their debut single, ‘Salva Mea’, a song sold more than 1,000,000 times. With ‘Insomnia’ (1996) and ‘God Is a DJ’ (1998) their hit status was confirmed and the band played at the biggest festivals (Rock Werchter, Main Stage) and in sold-out concert halls, including the Antwerp Sportpaleis.

Earlier this year, Maxi Jazz already announced that it was battling health issues. “They affected my ability to perform. I’ll let you know when I have enough strength to go out again and see you all.”
