Fairphone 2 to receive latest Android update in March after seven years – Tablets and phones – News

How it works after 7 years, in terms of user experience and the battery life?

The battery is replaceable, because it is a fairphone, so the user can simply make it like new after 7 years.

Think that for such a high price there could be a slightly better SoC.

That’s the price you pay for buying a product that’s designed to be repairable. Those cost savings that all other brands get by not prioritizing repairability are really reflected in the price, like here.

Maybe such an SD720G is fine for everyday use, but I wonder if that will still be the case in 5 years?

It depends on your needs. I know many people who still happily use a phone with SD625 or SD662 with no issues. That SoC is now something of a relic in the smartphone world, but it still works well

My biggest problem with Fairphone is customer service. I have a few people near me who have had one. The sample size is obviously small, but they break down rather quickly, that’s clear to me anyway. It’s not that bad, because it’s a fairphone, right? But if you can’t fix it yourself, you’ll sadly find that the Fairphone is a typical niche manufacturer, with distinctly poor customer service, that basically leaves you to your devices, leaving you with little else to do but tinker or return it yourself.
I can still understand that they just don’t have the manpower and experience yet as a relatively new and small player, but that doesn’t help me as a paying consumer. I’m just a customer, not a fan who likes to support a bunch of engineers’ hobby project with their hearts in the right place without getting anything honest in return. You have those people too and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I don’t

So if you have a fairphone and it shows signs of malfunctioning within the distance selling law period, send it back immediately, because otherwise you will likely retain the faults for the life of the device. The same goes for any piece of electronics. Don’t be difficult, stay on your stripes, because that law exists for a reason.

Before people reply with “I HAVE A FAIRPHONE FOR 8 YEARS AND IT HEARS PERFECT!!” I’m really happy for you because I love the fairphone concept
