The municipality of Amsterdam closed the Osdorp fair three hours earlier after continuing unrest in the area. Illegal fireworks, fighting and attacks against humanitarian workers erupted yesterday and today. For this reason it was decided to close the fair at 19:00 instead of 22:00. As he remained unstable after closing time, the police carried out the charges.
Just like yesterday, fireworks were thrown at the agents tonight. A neighbor says to NH News that the shots were heard all night. Police tell the regional broadcaster that one person has been arrested for the time being.
Fair boss Frans Stuy tells the city channel AT 5 who is very sorry for the early closure of the fair, but points out that he does not blame the police and the municipality. “I’ve been there for 35 years and I’ve spanned all generations. Things really happened in those years, but never like now.”
Search for the first time
Stuy had taken steps after the riots last weekend. For example, there was only one entrance and one open emergency exit, where previously the site could be accessed from multiple places. “And for the first time in 35 years we searched today. I have always been against a fair with fences and searches. It has always been fine, until this weekend,” said the owner of the fair.
The Osdorp fair is there until next Sunday. Stuy hopes to be able to stay open a little longer in the coming days. “I’m willing to mount cameras and increase security even more, even if I have to fix it myself, and that costs a fortune. So I don’t blame the police and the municipality, but I have a chance to do it.” ruins everything, “he says.
