Fair offers information to immigrant entrepreneurs

Elisa López Navarrete is a lawyer in Ecuador.

She has been in New York City for five years and wants to open an organization that helps immigrants like her, giving them legal support.

“The American dream is financial freedom through our own business, where we are leaders and literally, we can achieve the goals that other people set for themselves,” says López.

The non-profit organization focuses primarily on helping members of the Latino community who had small businesses in their countries of origin or were professionals, and who here in the United States do not know the steps follow the right to open their own enterprise.

For this reason, several experts offered guidance to dozens of people who wanted to start a business.

Marcela Orvañanos de Rovzar, founder of the Qualitas of Life Foundation explains:

“Here they find all the services they can talk to, which is part of what Qualitas also does. Not only does it provide these financial education courses, but it will ‘building alliances, and these alliances mean that we can help them on all issues related to their needs.’

Financial organizations, lawyers, representatives of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and also the consulate of Ecuador, Mexico and Colombia participated in this fair, which they themselves advise.

Similarly, the Commissioner of the Office of Immigrant Affairs of the Mayor, Manuel Castro, was also present with information about the programs that the city government has for people who want to open small businesses.

“Sometimes they don’t know that they can do business here regardless of their immigration status and they have a lot of support from organizations like Qualitas and also the New York City government. We have a lot of programs available to them and we want them to do that. take advantage of them.” all these resources that exist for our communities here in New York,” said Castro.
