NEW DELHI – A total of 12 ministers in the Cabinet of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have resigned at once. The mass resignations of a dozen ministers came after the government was criticized for its failure to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Modi has come under fire for his deplorable response to the huge wave of infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Quotes AFPOn Thursday (8/7/2021), PM Modi’s 12 members of the Council of Ministers, including six senior members of the Cabinet, submitted their resignations on Wednesday in the first major reshuffle of the government’s second term.

Among those asked to step down was Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, seen as an acknowledgment of the government’s disastrous response to the coronavirus crisis.

Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, known for spearheading the government’s row with big tech companies such as Twitter and WhatsApp, also stepped down.
