Failed takeoff in Tenerife North | Radio Club Tenerife

An Iberia plane thwarted its takeoff this Saturday when it was already carrying out the maneuver on the Tenerife North airport runway before the imminence of the landing of another Air Europa aircraft.

Aena sources consulted by the Efe agency indicate that the crew of the plane that was going to land considered that there would not be enough time to synchronize both actions and delayed their maneuver, making a detour to save time.

In turn, the pilot of the Iberia plane received instructions to frustrate takeoff. It left the runway and, after carrying out the pertinent checks, ended up taking off normally to Madrid, from where the aircraft that was involved in this situation had come.

According to @controladores on twitter, the arriving plane crew decided to interrupt the approach in a normal (frustrated) maneuver, informing the control tower. The immediate response of the controller was to tell the plane on the runway to abort takeoff and the crew assesses whether, at its speed, it can stop the plane as it happened or should take off. Later, the arriving plane landed without problems and the departing plane, after cooling the brakes and checking, took off for Madrid.

For its part, the Iberia Express company published a statement in which it assures that the security procedures have been followed at all times and the instructions of the controllers who, before the landing of another plane, requested the takeoff abort have been followed. He qualifies the maneuver as a habitual one for which the crews are prepared and train repeatedly in simulators without safety being compromised.
