Deputy Chairperson of the Gelora Party Fahri Hamzah criticize the formation United Indonesia Coalition by the Golkar Party, PPP, and PAN ahead of the 2024 General Election. Fahri said the ‘final coalition’ must be stopped.
“The ‘final coalition’ must be stopped in this republic!” Fahri said to reporters, Friday (13/5/2022).
“It is not healthy for our presidentialism to allow the ‘ultimate coalition’ to have no end, no beginning, how it started, nor did it end,” he added.
Fahri assessed that the coalition is not known in the presidential system. He said, in the regulations, only mention was made of political parties and coalitions of political parties.
“The term coalition is not known in presidentialism. Coalition is the terminology in parliamentarism. That’s why it is difficult to find out where the coalition is in our system. In the Constitution it only mentions the bearer of political parties and coalitions of political parties,” explained Fahri.
Fahri said that the initial purpose of mentioning the nominees for presidential candidates was political parties and also coalitions of political parties. This is because the constitution anticipates that there will be pairs of candidates who are supported by more than one political party.
“Actually original intent or the initial intention of mentioning the nominee of a presidential candidate ‘political party and coalition of political parties’ is because the constitution anticipates that one pair of candidates will be supported by more than one political party,” said Fahri.
“Therefore, in fact the origin is that every political party may nominate a candidate because that candidate will later clearly explain what the ideology and ideas of the political party are if they lead nationally their cadres,” he added.
Furthermore, Fahri said, currently the Gelora Party is fighting for each party to emerge with a strong identity. According to him, the party should have a spokesperson and presidential candidate who can convey messages to the public about the identity of the party.
“Actually, the Gelora Party is fighting for each party to emerge with a strong identity. That’s why it is better for him to have a spokesman and a presidential candidate who can convey different messages to the public about who they are and what color they are,” said Fahri.
Fahri said that Gelora did not agree with the material coalition. He said that Gelora prioritized party concepts and ideologies through their future presidential candidates.
“We don’t agree that politics will turn into a material coalition, but we want to strengthen the identity of presidentialism by prioritizing the concepts and ideologies of the party represented and the spokesperson explicitly by the president or his presidential candidate,” he added.
