Fadli Zon: The Job Creation Law Is Not On Target And Not On Time Page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – DPR members from the Gerindra Party faction Fadli Zon rate, Work Creation Act not right on target in addressing the problem of investment barriers in the country.

Quoting World Economic Forum (WEF) data, Fadli explained that the main obstacles to investment in Indonesia are corruption, bureaucratic inefficiency, policy instability, and tax regulations.

“But the target all the law why is it an employment issue? What’s the story? So, the diagnosis and the prescription were not connected from the start, “he said in a written statement, Wednesday (7/10/2020).

According to him, workers / laborers who are currently in a difficult position due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic are increasingly cornered.

Fadli is of the opinion that the interests and voices of the public in the formation of the Job Creation Law have been marginalized. Fadli noted a number of issues that were the subject of rejection of workers / laborers.

“In my notes, there are several issues that do disturb the sense of labor justice. For example, the severance pay scheme for laid-off workers was changed from the previous 32 months of wages, now to 25 months of wages. Then, the elimination of UMK (Regency Minimum Wage) becomes UMP ( Provincial Minimum Wage), “he said.

Then, the rights of workers that were previously guaranteed in the Manpower Law Number 13/2003, such as the right to long rest, work reward pay, and the opportunity to work for 5 days a week are deleted in the Job Copyright Law.

“So, in general, this omnibus law does not give a sense of justice, not only for workers, but also for society in general,” said Fadli.

In addition, Fadli assessed the process of forming and enacting the Work Copyright Act in a timely manner.

He said discussing a bill as important as this that impacts many aspects of people’s lives in the midst of a pandemic is a bad precedent for the practice of legislation.

“Discussing all the materials mentioned earlier in such a short time is impossible, especially in the midst of various limitations and restrictions during this pandemic. So, the discussion of the omnibus law does not pay attention to the voice and participation of the community,” he said.

He is also worried that the enactment of the Copyright Act will create instability in the country.

Various community refusals to the point of strike action have shown that the Job Creation Law only caused uproar.

“If it continues to be forced to be implemented, it will undoubtedly only damage industrial relations. This means that both workers and employers will end up being disadvantaged. It’s a matter of time,” said Fadli.

Fadli himself admitted that he did not get to prevent the ratification of the Work Creation Bill.

The reason is that he is not a member of the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg), and he also said he was surprised by the plenary agenda for the accelerated closing of the trial period on Monday (5/10/2020).

“As a member of the DPR, I am among those unable to prevent the passage of this law. Apart from not being a member of the Baleg, I am also one of those who was surprised by the promotion of the Plenary Session schedule yesterday, as well as accelerating the recess period,” he said.

“This is not an apology, but the reality of the existing political configuration. I apologize,” said Fadli.
