Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Gerindra Party Fadli Zon highlighting President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) tweet for using English, while congratulating Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s inauguration as Malaysia’s new Prime Minister (PM). The Special Staff of the Minister of State Secretariat (Staffsus Mensesneg), Faldo Maldini, considered Fadli’s spotlight as a form of attention to President Jokowi.
Faldo initially talked about his relationship with Fadli Zon. He admitted that he often spoke in Minang language with Fadli. Both Faldo and Fadli are from West Sumatra (West Sumatra).
“When I talk to Bang Fadli, I usually use Indonesian, although I’m sure he can speak Minang. I’m sure, even though Bang Fadli isn’t as long as I’m in the village,” Faldo told reporters, Sunday (22/8/2021).
“Yes, the important thing is that they both understand and are comfortable, other people also understand. I never thought that Bang Fadli had lost his Minority identity,” he added.
Faldo explained that Jokowi did not use English because he felt that he was not the same as the Malaysian PM. According to the staff of the Minister of State Secretary for communication and media, the use of English is intended to be understood by the international community.
“The president uses English, also in a similar context, like me and Bang Fadli. It doesn’t mean that you don’t feel one family. What’s important is that the message is conveyed. Apart from that, other international communities, whose languages are different,” said Faldo.
Faldo said that President Jokowi continued to use Indonesian during bilateral meetings with the Malaysian PM. He thanked Fadli for still paying attention to Jokowi.
“In bilateral meetings with Malaysia, the President uses Indonesian language. So it does not reduce the meaning of anything. However, we thank Bang Fadli who continues to pay attention,” concluded the PSI politician.
Previously reported, Fadli Zon highlighting Jokowi’s tweets also via Twitter, using the account @fadlizon. He believes the new Malaysian PM will still understand Jokowi’s intentions if congratulations are given in Indonesian.
“It’s good P @jokowi say congratulations in Indonesian, because our neighboring country Malaysia is a cognate language. P @IsmailSabri60 even understand Indonesian,” wrote Fadli, Sunday (22/8/2021).
