The University of panama has marked a significant milestone in its 2023-2024 academic year, graduating approximately 13,000 new professionals across various faculties and regional centers.This achievement underscores the institutionS commitment to fostering education and innovation in Panama and beyond.
A Message from the Rector
Dr. Eduardo Flores Castro, the rector of the University of Panama, extended his congratulations to the graduates, emphasizing their role in driving economic growth, innovation, and social progress. “Your contributions will be vital to our nation’s development,” he said. Dr.Flores Castro also highlighted the importance of institutional accreditation and reaccreditation processes in maintaining high educational standards.
“University authorities reported that, on the central campus, more than 3,700 professionals graduated from the different faculties. It was Business Governance and Accounting (FAECO) that registered the highest number of graduates, with 751 graduates, of wich 83% were women.”
Diverse Fields, Shining Futures
The graduates represent a wide array of disciplines, from health sciences to engineering and humanities. In the Faculty of Medicine, 165 doctors of medicine and 85 graduates were honored, while the Faculty of Dentistry celebrated 69 new professionals. The faculty of Pharmacy also saw 82 graduates successfully complete their studies.
Among the 13,000 graduates, 6,100 participated in the graduation ceremonies, with the remaining receiving their diplomas through alternative means.Professor Ricardo Parker, the General Secretary of the university, noted that this reflects the institution’s flexibility and commitment to ensuring all students receive their well-deserved recognition.
Regional Centers Contribute to National Development
Regional centers across Panama also played a crucial role in this year’s graduation, with over 2,400 graduates from various provinces.Bocas del toro led with 457 new professionals, followed by Veraguas with 326 graduates. Colón celebrated 383 new professionals, highlighting the university’s impact on local and national development.
In Los Santos, 298 new professionals were honored, while Coclé celebrated 292 graduates. One notable story emerged from Coclé, where María de los Ángeles Pinzón overcame the challenges of myelomeningocele to earn her second degree in Secondary Education. Her perseverance serves as an inspiration to all.
Female Leadership in Higher Education
Aguadulce’s graduation ceremony saw 95 graduates, with 80% being women. This statistic underscores the growing role of female leadership in higher education, a trend that is being celebrated across the university’s faculties and regional centers.
