Facts about the Chinese J-10 fighter jet
Launch airforce-technology, the J-10 fighter jet was designed by the Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute with a choice of one and two seats. Here are the facts.
1. Originally made in China
The Chengdu J-10 is a multipurpose fighter aircraft made in China developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry, part of the China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I). In the West, J-10 aircraft are known as ‘Strong Dragons’.
It is estimated that up to 300 J-10 fighters will be produced to be deployed across Chinese army, navy, air force squadrons.
2. Developed takes a long time
The existence of the J-10 was first reported in 1994, but the J-10 program began in 1988 and the first flight of a single-seat aircraft was made in 1998.
However, China officially announced the J-10 in February 2007.The new fourth-generation J-10 was launched by the air force in April 2010.
3. Similar to Israeli fighter aircraft
The J-10 is said to be very similar in size and design to the Israeli Aircraft Industry’s Lavi fighter. Like the J-10, the Lavi is a single-seat, single-engine multirole fighter, designed in principle for high-speed penetration and bombing missions.
4. Jet is super fast
The J-10 can fly at a maximum speed of 2,327 km per hour in the air. Its maximum speed at sea level is 1,470 km per hour. The aircraft’s combat range and radius are 1,850 km and 550 km, respectively.
The J-10 weighs approximately 9,750 kg and a maximum takeoff weight of 19,277 kg.
