Factory Visited by Luhut, Hyundai Boss Hopes to Be a “Game Changer”

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Together with the South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Park Tae-Sung, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan visited the factory of PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI).

HMMI itself continues the development process amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Until now, the construction process is claimed to have reached more than 60 percent.

Thus, it is hoped that the factory will be ready to operate optimally by the end of 2021.

Not only that, the construction of the Hyundai factory itself is claimed to make a positive contribution to Indonesia’s export development by becoming a supplier to major markets in other ASEAN regions.

Luhut explained that he really appreciates HMMI in pursuing factory operations even in the midst of challenging conditions.

“The Indonesian government is currently targeting to accelerate the growth of the EV industry and hopes that Hyundai can become part of this important mission,” said Luhut.

In addition, Luhut million expressed his hope that there would be cooperation between the Indonesian and Korean governments to jointly oversee the development of the factory until it was ready for production, and hoped that Indonesia would become one of the main EV markets in ASEAN.

“With the products that HMMI produces will be exported to Southeast Asia and will have a positive impact on Indonesia’s economic growth in the long term, the South Korean Embassy will take on the role of an intermediary bridge,” said Park.

Meanwhile, President of Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific Headquarters YoungTack Lee, also expressed his gratitude and hoped to make a big contribution to Indonesia.
