I’m not very prone to addiction, games like CIV and the like don’t do much for me. But Factorio (aka, Crack-thorium) wasn’t really normal in how easily positive feedback is obtained, and so it’s very hard to put it down.
Like you say, ‘just increase my science’, and then you think ‘but if I do that, I’d also have to redesign my conveyor belts’, and then you think ‘it would also help if I made faster tires’, and then you say ‘So I have need to expand this sector” and fall deeper and deeper into the hole in the game.
It’s really close to the perfect game loop, where everything you do has an effect on everything you do, so you never do anything for bacon and beans. Everything is helpful, if you update 1 thing it will effect the whole process, then the other one needs to be updated as well to keep everything running smoothly.
Truly the perfect game, but I don’t dare touch it anymore because I know I will lose whole days of my life. So you launch co-op multiplayer and then it only gets worse because you’re infecting each other with “Just a little dit-itis”.
Now that I’ve written this, maybe I should update the security to stop the creepy biters.
