Factorio is a very deep game and the developer was afraid that it would overcomplicate it. However, he still decided to present parameterized drawings
Factorio developer reached out to the community. The new diary is dedicated to mechanics, which he recently completed.
He had been nurturing the idea of “parameterized blueprints” for several years. He thought it was too hardcore to be added to Factorio: “…but I realized that underestimating players is usually a mistake,” so he decided to introduce it.
Why is this even necessary? For example, this will be useful when organizing train loading stations, when you have to perform the same actions for a long time.
This is what the process looks like in Factorio without the new mechanics.
This is what it looks like with parameterized drawings: construction proceeds faster, significantly less time is spent on setup. When creating stations in this case, it is enough to click several times to configure everything and get the expected result, for which you previously had to “dive” into the menu.
