Fact Check: Not True Photo There is a Rainbow Appearance on Mars

Fact Check browse and find articles entitled “Fact Check: Did NASA’s Perseverance Rover Photograph a Mars Rainbow?” which aired on Newsweek.com on April 7, 2021.

In the article there is an explanation from NASA.

“Many are asking: Is that a rainbow on Mars? No. Rainbows are not possible here.

Rainbows are created by light reflected from spherical water droplets, but there isn’t enough water here to condense, and it’s too cold for liquid water in the atmosphere. This arc is the lens flare, “ the sound of NASA’s statement.

The article also explains that this does not mean that there is no water in the atmosphere of Mars. The NASA website says the planet’s atmosphere is composed mostly of carbon dioxide and some water vapor.

Even theoretically if there is enough steam to produce rainbows it can’t happen because the average temperature on Mars is minus 81 degrees Fahrenheit and the pressure is very low. So that the steam will not be able to form the round water droplets that the rainbow needs.
