Authority Iran impose a week-long lockdown in the capital Teheran and surrounding areas to suppress the spread corona virus (COVID-19). The lockdown was implemented when the daily number of Corona cases in Iran hit a record high amid the brunt of the fifth Corona virus.
As reported Reuters, Wednesday (21/7/2021), lockdown effective in the region of Tehran and Alborz Province from Tuesday (20/7) local time, with only essential business centers allowed to remain open.
Most offices, cinemas and sports facilities must close during the lockdown, in order to prevent the spread of Corona, especially the Delta variant, which is highly contagious.
The lockdown also includes a ban on road travel between Tehran and Alborz Province. Local traffic police blocked roads leading to popular tourist destinations on Tuesday (20/7) local time, but traffic was observed to be heavy on Monday (19/7) evening as residents tried to leave Tehran.
A new record was recorded in Iran on Tuesday (20/7) local time, when the country reported 27,444 cases of Corona in a day. This figure shifts the previous record high which was recorded on April 14 with 25,582 Corona cases in a day.
With this addition, the total number of Corona cases in Iran now exceeds 3.5 million.
Iranian authorities also reported 250 deaths in a day, bringing the total deaths from Corona in the country to 87,624 people.
