Specialist doctors have warned that facial swelling may be a major sign of lung cancer.
According to Macmillan Cancer Support, facial swelling occurs when the tumor presses on the superior vena cava (SVC), which connects the head to the heart. Doctors indicate that most cases of SVCO are caused by lung cancer.
Doctors pointed out that most cases of blockage of the superior vena cava are caused by lung cancer or the spread of the disease to nearby lymph nodes, so that they become swollen.
Experts in the field also revealed that in addition to facial swelling, swelling may occur in the neck, arms and upper chest due to vein pressure.
Other accompanying symptoms include shortness of breath, headache, vision changes, blue veins on the chest, or dizziness.
Lung cancer is rare in people under the age of 40 and mostly affects the elderly, according to the NHS website.
Doctors called for quitting smoking immediately as it is the main cause, as scientific statistics indicate that smokers are at the forefront of infection with this disease by 70% of injuries.
