faced with “too low” reserves, an urgent call for mobilization is launched in Bourgogne Franche-Comté

With the May bank holidays and deconfinement, the French Blood Establishment has seen a drop in the number of donations and reserves now considered “too low“, in particular for groups O and B. Until June 12, it is launching several mobile collections in Bourgogne Franche-Comté.

At the end of March, a first cry of alarm was launched by the French Blood Establishment (EFS) before the Easter weekend. At the time, the reserves at the national level were below the mark of 100,000 blood bags, while they must reach 110,000.

Two months later, the situation worsened: with only 85,000 bags, the blood reserves are now “too low, especially on blood groups O and B“, wrote the EFS in a statement.

This very fragile situation could be explained on the one hand by public holidays in May, the samples cannot be taken on those dates, and by the deconfinement on the other hand which would have led to a drop in the number of visits to its collections, as stated in this tweet.

About sixty mobile collections

An urgent call for national mobilization is therefore launched by the EFS, “to help provide healthcare facilities with the blood products they need to care for patients.

Until June 12, around sixty event collections with important objectives will take place in the region, particularly in the coming days in Marzy, Mouthe, Nuits Saint Georges and even Nolay. It is obviously possible to go to one of the seven donation houses in Auxerre, Belfort, Dijon, Besançon, Chalon, Mâcon and Sens.
