the lack of nursing staff forced the Lucien Hussel hospital in Vienne in Isère to reorganize itself to ensure the care of patients in medicine, surgery and gerontology.
This reorganization is far from trivial since the lack of resources has been felt since September 2021. It would take 30 nurses and 30 caregivers to be more serene. The hospital must also deal with short-term shutdowns and the organization of night services is particularly affected.
No service closure for the moment
To deal with this situation, the management in conjunction with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) took heavy decisions. 25 beds close in this month of November throughout the establishment, 25 others are transferred but for the moment, this does not cause a shutdown of service.
The slightest grain of sand seems to be able to destabilize this “optimisation”, word used by the secretary general. It could come from the night closure of the Givors hospital emergency department in the Rhône from Thursday 25 November and for six days. This should bring five more passages to the emergency room in Vienna according to the management which ensures that it is necessary “remain cautious about developments in this sector” since all the emergency services in Nord-Isère and southern Lyon are under tension.
An organization in place at least until mid-January 2022
This crisis organization valid at least until mid-January 2022 but the hospital does not rule out having to change its organization again by then if its workforce changes.
In the meantime, the hospital is considering several avenues such as the use of overtime, “replacement missions” and consider “communication actions” to recruit.
