Facebook no longer allows ads to persuade people not to get vaccinated. “We don’t want these kinds of advertisements on our platform,” the company wrote in a letter blog post.
The new policy will leave room for advertisements in which a position is taken for or against government policy on vaccines. These advertisements are accompanied by a label, so that it is clear to users who paid for the advertisement.
The Facebook update is a tightening of previously drawn up rules on the advertising policy for vaccines. For example, advertisements were banned that made false claims about vaccinations out into the world.
The new Facebook policy will take effect in the coming days. The company says it is collaborating with, among others, the health organization WHO to inform people about the use of vaccines.
