“During this initial test, we will explore various ways to rank political content in people’s feeds using different signals, and then decide which approach we will use going forward,” wrote Aastha Gupta, Facebook’s director of product management in a blog post. The Economic Times, Sunday (14/2/2021)

Facebook started doing these trials after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, said the company was experimenting with ways to quell the political debate that divided users.

“One of the top insights we hear from our community right now is that people don’t want politics to take over their experience on our service,” said Zuckerberg.

Political content will not completely disappear from the news feed. Content from official government agencies and services will be exempt from algorithmic changes, as will information about Covid-19 from central organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

Last month, Zuckerberg said users were still able to discuss politics within private groups.
