Meta may be considering a complete overhaul of Facebook and its feed main that can make the platform a little more similar to TikTok.
The changes in question, which will be implemented due to the alleged pressure that Meta is suffering from platforms such as Tik Tok, could cause very significant changes in the content that is recommended to users.
According to the portal The Vergeciting an internal memorandum of the company, these changes are currently being analyzed by the company, but still without anything concrete to be implemented for end users.
In the document there is a reference to the “Discovery Engine” – a format that would bring the recommendations closer to what is found in the main feed of TikTok.
With this change, users could start to see more content from unknown creators or users, especially from Reels, and start to see less content from friends and family. Investors are questioning whether Facebook can continue to maintain its ability to attract advertisements.
In addition, these changes may also include bringing Messenger back to the main Facebook app – again with the idea of encouraging user participation on the platform.
Remember that this is not the first time that Facebook has analyzed the possibility of changing the way content is recommended to users. In April, Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company was preparing changes in the way content would be recommended, starting to adopt more Artificial Intelligence for this task.
Be that as it may, the internal document clearly points out the idea that Facebook intends to follow market trends, and compete directly with TikTok to the point that it is considering major changes to its own platform to do so.
