Katy Bannerman is a young mother residing in North Carolina, whose story has touched thousands of Facebook users and other social media. The woman decided to donate 234 liters of breastmilk to those women who had problems breastfeeding their babies.
As she explained, when she gave birth to her first child, she had problems, since she did not generate enough milk for her newborn. However, when she became pregnant with the second, she was determined to overcome the above difficulties.
Bannerman was entrusted to a private lactation consultant who helped her produce more milk than expected. His refrigerator looked full of bags of the liquid, so he decided to donate them to those who had had a baby and could not feed it.
The young woman extracted more than two liters a day. When she started donating, Katy didn’t know where to start, so she took to Facebook groups about lactation and breastfeeding, where she found some requests.
“That was the type of person who wanted me to receive it (the milk). Someone who had problems with breastfeeding for one reason or another, “wrote the supportive mother.
When composing the message, the responses did not take long to appear. The women began to come to his house every week, including a family that had recently adopted a baby and another in which their young son was stunted.
After her experience, Katy motivated other mothers to look for all possible methods to feed their children. The woman stopped expressing milk in October and donated the last packet in December 2020.
