Dolores Vasquez is an 81-year-old Paraguayan woman whose story was made viral on Facebook. Her classmates showed solidarity with her and gave her a computer so that she can continue with her higher studies, since she postponed her plans to help her parents financially.
The octogenarian, like many women of her generation, had a difficult life marked by poverty and inequality. Her dream was always to be an environmental engineer, but, as a result of the demands and precariousness of the time in which she was born, she could not become what she always longed for.
However, he decided to take advantage of the time he currently has to devote to his professional development. He even enrolled as a student at the Polytechnic and Artistic University of Paraguay, where he even teaches classes.
When there was little left to finish with her curriculum, the COVID-19 pandemic began, so she could not continue because the classes were given virtually and Dolores did not have a computer. However, the board of directors, the professors and the other students of his faculty decided to surprise him and donated a new notebook.
“People from my faculty saw the publication in the newspaper and today they brought me a computer. If I cry it is because, at 81 years old, it is the first time that I have one (…). Now I am going to be able to follow the virtual classes and hopefully I can already become an environmental engineer, which is what I want so much, ”Vásquez wrote on his Facebook account.
Her story was applauded by users on social networks, who wished the best of luck to the woman who dreams of completing her university studies.
