Facebook takes it one step further to make Messenger and WhatsApp compatible

Facebook seems to be gently preparing the ground for bringing WhatsApp and Messenger closer to allow users of the two messaging apps to chat with each other.

Bringing the different Facebook services together is a subject that has been circulating in the tech world for quite some time. The idea of this project, if it materializes, would be to allow users to Messenger to exchange easily with people who have installed only WhatsApp or Instagram. And vice versa.

Rapprochement entre WhatsApp et Messenger

WABetaInfo provides further proof of a rapprochement between the Messenger and WhatsApp platforms. Through a screenshot posted by the site, we can indeed see that Facebook seems to prepare the ground for this interoperability.

« According to the references listed in this image, Facebook can understand if a WhatsApp contact is blocked, the sounds of push notifications, the details of a chat (which includes specific information such as the contact’s phone number, a message counter , if the cat is archived…) but not its content, members of a specific group, and contact profile photos Writes WABetaInfo.

A far from easy site

These are all essential things so that the Messenger application can easily communicate with its WhatsApp counterpart. Be careful however, these few lines do not mean that this rapprochement is imminent. Truth be told, it is still entirely possible that Facebook will never materialize the project. The work is particularly complex and several questions remain unanswered, in particular concerning the end-to-end encryption of conversations already in force on WhatsApp. This function should not disappear from the platform and should even be deployed on a larger scale on Messenger.

And in parallel, the developer Alessandro Paluzzi recently showed that the Instagram teams were already working on a way to integrate Messenger into the application dedicated to photo sharing.
