Facebook scam alert: the police bring down the head of the network

In recent years, with the arrival of 3g and 4g, scams through social networks have experienced a “boom”, thus reaping many victims.

But with the creation of the cybercrime unit within the security services. Scams have stagnated somewhat, but zero risk remains a long way off.

Also, just last week, the national wilaya gendarmerie in Batna dismantled a “criminal” network specializing in scams via Facebook.

According to a press release from the National Gendarmerie, the security services have arrested six fraudsters. Aged between 20 and 38, the 6 criminals were placed in police custody, pending the completion of the first investigations.

The group of scammers is even more numerous. Indeed, two other people are on the run from the arrest of their co-defendants. Search alerts were issued by the security services to arrest them in time.

What “false story” did the scammers sell to their victims?

The defendants defrauded their victims with false advertisements for appliance product bellies. It’s not the first time we’ve heard of fake sellers on Facebook, but this one has made a good number of victims.

With eight people, this scammer network was well organized with several Facebook pages. By offering low prices for televisions, air conditioners and heaters, they claimed many lives.

Furthermore, the services of the national gendarmerie proceeded, during their descent, to the seizure of two vehicles. These were used to defraud victims.

A man jailed for “promoting prostitution”

It’s a story like no other. A man has been heavily convicted of promoting prostitution on social networks, by Djelfa’s wilaya.

A resident of Djelfa’s wilaya, the “Ambassador of Prostitution of Djelfa” has taken great pains for postings on Facebook. In fact, he was sentenced to five (05) years in prison with a fine of DZD 300,000.

The accused, thirty years old, promoted prostitution through “making appointments”. More than a week ago, the man launched a video broadcast live on the social network Facebook in which he claimed to be dating prostitutes.

In short, the defendant was the intermediary between the prostitutes of the region and the “future clients” Internet users. He has offered appointments with “black houses” for a sum of money.

It should be noted that prostitution is prohibited in Algeria. This is a crime punishable by several years of imprisonment if caught in the act of committing a crime.
