Hitekno.com – Facebook Reality Labs succeeded in developing the Virtual Reality (VR) technology that can create avatar who can move like a real human.

Named avatara VR project Avatar Codec This allows a person to be able to create their own avatar which can be used to communicate in a virtual meeting.

The head of Facebook Reality Labs, Yaser Syeikh, said that the Avatar Codec has the potential to create a new trend in the future.

“The Avatar Codec is the result of a process that uses machine learning to collect, study, and re-create human social expressions,” the Sheikh was quoted as saying. Wired, Monday (17/8/2020).

The Avatar Codec works by scanning the faces of VR users to form an avatar, as well as their facial expressions and gestures.

So first of all, the user’s face will be scanned immediately as soon as they put on the VR device. Furthermore, the system will read and analyze their expressions to become an avatar.

Unlike most other technologies that seem ‘dead’ because they create inexpressive and passive avatars, Avatar Codec can actually display avatars like real humans.

Not only having the same face with device users, Avatar Codec can also make avatars move and display more lively expressions.

It’s just that, because the scan is only carried out on the face, the resulting avatar is only limited to the upper part of the human, namely from the head to the neck only.

“It would be great if we could complete this project. We want this project to be commercialized,” the Sheikh concluded.(Voice.com/Tivan Rahmat)
