Meta has announced the launch of a new feature in Facebook Messenger. We’re dealing with shortcuts that include Send silent messages through this messenger.
We won’t wake up friends anymore
Not everyone puts their smartphone on silent for the night, so surely many night owls have accidentally received a reply from a friend that the message they sent just woke them up. In the case of Facebook Messenger, this will no longer be a problem. The creators of the messenger have implemented a solution that allows you to send silent messages.
It should be mentioned that silent messages is part of a larger update bringing you shortcuts. This is not a completely new solution, because a similar function can be found in Slack or Discord, among others. With the help of shortcuts entered in the chat window we can access certain options.
For example, after entering “@everyone”, all chat participants will be notified of the sent message. With the abbreviation “/silent” we should not wake anyone up, for example, if we have decided to send a message at 3 a.m – then the message reaches the recipient, but without notification.
Both shortcuts are already being introduced in Messenger, but remember that the process is gradual. Consequently, some will still have to wait. Ultimately, the novelty should be available to all users of the application on Android and iOS.
There will be many more shortcuts
How can we read Entry in the official blog, Facebook Messenger will be getting a larger selection of shortcuts in the coming weeks. According to Meta’s assurance, they are intended to serve both practical and fun purposes. Below this we get:
- / Pay – makes it easy to send and receive money directly in individual chats (feature only available in US),
- /gif – as the name suggests, the shortcut is for sending GIFs (initially it should only be available for iOS users),
- /shrug and /tableflip – the shortcut makes it easier to insert classic emoticons into messages (will only be available for iOS users for the time being).
It is possible that the messenger will get additional shortcuts over time, which can noticeably improve the use of the messenger. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any details here, so we do not know what to expect in the near future.
