Facebook is testing a feature in India to share Instagram reels in its news | Reuters

(Reuters) – Facebook said on Monday it is testing a feature on Instagram that allows some creators in India to share short videos known as Rails on their Facebook accounts.

In testing, some Indian users who create 30-second long reels on Instagram will have the option to recommend them on Facebook.

Additionally, the social media giant has said that it will have its own version of the reels feature in the main app.

“In India, we are testing the ability of Instagram creators to choose to recommend their reels on Facebook… Creators can reach new audiences and people can create and discover more entertainment content,” a Facebook spokeswoman told Reuters.

The Instagram Reels feature is the company’s version of ByteDance’s TikTok, where users can record short videos for mobile devices and add special effects and audio clips pulled from the music library.

It was launched in the wake of the TikTok ban in India in June last year, after the Chinese app created a craze among Indian short video users.

The success of TikTok has prompted many social media companies to add short video services to their platforms, and Snap Inc’s Snapchat launched the “Spotlight” app last November.
