Facebook has suspended Donald Trump’s accounts for two years

Facebook has announced that it will suspend all accounts of former President Donald Trump for two years, starting on January 7 this year, when he was initially banned from participating in the social media platform, BNR.

According to the company, when the suspension is lifted in 2023, there will be “a strict set of rapidly escalating sanctions that will be triggered if Mr. Trump commits additional violations in the future, including the permanent removal of his pages and profiles.”

Facebook added that it understood that today’s decision would be considered “contradictory”.

Last month, the tech giant’s supervisory board decided to confirm the company’s ban on Trump’s account because of his role in the January 6 Capitol riots.

This two-year ban will prevent Trump from using Facebook or Instagram to communicate with his followers until after the 2022 US midterm elections.

The former US president reacted sharply to the news, AFP reported. “Facebook’s decision is an insult to the 75 million (Americans) who voted for us (in the presidential election) in (November) 2020,” Trump said in a statement. He stressed that the social media giant should not be allowed to censor and silence people. “We will win in the end. Our country can no longer tolerate these abuses!” Trump assured.
