Meta announces changes to Facebook groups with the appearance of a new sidebar to easily and quickly find what users are looking for. This is very similar to what Discord already offers.
The new Facebook Groups sidebar lists the groups you’ve joined and their recent activity, like new posts or conversations you haven’t read yet. You can also pin your favorite groups to appear first, discover new ones, or even create your own.
There are also organizational changes. Each group is now equipped with a new menu listing events, shops and a variety of chat channels that facilitate discussions around the common interests of members. So you can keep up to date with upcoming events, buy the latest promotional items and participate in conversations all at the same time.
Among other new features, Facebook offers administrators the possibility of creating discussion channels to allow members of their group to meet in smaller committees. Three formats are highlighted:
- Message Channels: A space where users can message, collaborate, and build closer relationships around a specific topic in real time within a Facebook group and on Messenger.
- Audio Channels: A feature that allows administrators and members to join and leave an audio chat in real time.
- Posting Channels: A way for users to get together when it’s most convenient for them. Admins can organize their communities according to the topics discussed within the group so that members can gather around more specific interests.
