Washington state prosecutor has filed a lawsuit against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He is alleged to have contributed to “lax control” of user data and helped draft deceptive privacy agreements.
The prosecutor is concerned with the role that Zuckerberg played in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The British company collected personal data from 87 million users via Facebook, without asking permission.
Some of that data was used by Cambridge Analytica for political advertisements. Donald Trump used the company to “target” Facebook users in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, when he faced Hillary Clinton.
Karl Racine, the prosecutor involved, has previously unsuccessfully tried to hold Zuckerberg responsible. Now Racine says after “extensive investigation” he has evidence of the CEO’s personal involvement in the scandal. It is unclear what exactly that evidence entails.
Parent company Meta was not immediately available for comment. The company has previously said Racine’s claims are “little more than an attack on Facebook’s business model.”
