Facebook presents brain-to-text communication technology.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CALIFONIA – There are many reasons that make people unable to communicate verbally. This is also encouraging Facebook to find a solution to this problem.
Quoted from Slash Gear on Sunday (18/7), one of the right solutions is to bring technology brain-to-text communication. Facebook is also developing brain-to-text communication in collaboration with the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF).
This development resulted in a technology called brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). This device is claimed to be able to read the brain of a person who will speak and then translate it into text.
The device that is attached to the head is also claimed to be able to translate near-real-time. It is hoped that this device will also be able to play a role in helping the medical world in carrying out certain treatments.
This development involves a person who loses the ability to speak due to a stroke. With this device, participants only need to make an effort to speak and the system will read and translate them into words for later display on a computer screen.
This feature, which was developed since 2017, comes by relying on this neural signal so that it can translate 100 words per minute. The speed of the process is still called near-real-time because this device still takes a few seconds to be able to translate a word.
Next, Facebook will develop similar devices that rely on signals from the wrist. Armed with electromyography, this device will be able to come with a wider range of functions.
