Facebook denies that 73% of misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine comes from just 12 people

MADRID, 19 Ago. (Portaltic/EP) –

Facebook has denied the data from a recent report that stated that 73 percent of all misinformation about novel coronavirus vaccines on Facebook came from 12 people, and has stated that the true figure is only 0.05 percent.

The American company has announced in a statement measures against a series of users of their social networks for acting as ‘super spreaders’ of disinformation about vaccines against Covid-19, and deleted 36 Instagram and Facebook groups, pages and accounts for this reason.

These accounts were related to the 12 users that, in a recent report of the Center to Combat Digital Hate (CCDH) had been marked as responsible for 73 percent of vaccine misinformation against Covid.

Facebook has ensured that the real figure of misinformation attributable to these 12 people is 0.05 percent of the total anti-vaccine posts seen, and has explained that the CCDH report only used 483 content from 30 groups of about 2,500 people, which is not representative for the total of the social network.

Likewise, the social network has also imposed penalties against two dozen other Instagram and Facebook pages, groups and profiles related to the 12 ‘super diffusers’, relegating their contents in the ‘feed’ or not recommending them.

Facebook has since the beginning of the pandemic removed more than 3,000 pages, groups and user accounts for repeatedly violating the regulations of the social network and spreading disinformation against vaccines.
