In view of the riot at the headquarters of the US Congress, the online network Facebook has deleted a video of the elected US President Donald Trump, in which he addresses his demonstrating supporters in Washington. “It is an emergency and we are taking appropriate emergency measures,” said Facebook Deputy Chief Guy Rosen on Wednesday evening (local time).

With his video message, Trump increased the “risk of ongoing violence instead of reducing it,” said Rosen, justifying the decision. The online platform YouTube also deleted the video, as reported by the specialist portal “The Verge”.

In the clip released shortly before, Trump had called on his demonstrators to go “home” after the storming of the Capitol in Washington. However, Trump also reiterated his unsubstantiated claims of massive fraud in the presidential election and assured his supporters: “We love you.”

The online service Twitter, meanwhile, massively restricted the distribution of messages that had fueled the storm on the Capitol. According to the company, the step affects content that the service has provided with warnings about suspected incorrect information. These tweets could therefore no longer be distributed, commented on or given a like. Twitter justified the move with the “risk of violence”. The Trump video was also affected by the restrictions.

Militant supporters of Trump stormed the Capitol on Wednesday after the elected president called them in a speech to protest against the outcome of the November 3rd election. A congress session held there to formally confirm Biden’s victory had to be canceled.
