The Menlo Park company (California, USA) created this center last week due to the escalation in the exchange of fire with rocket launches from the Gaza Strip and Israeli bombings on military targets of the Islamist movement Hamas.
The control unit, similar to the one Facebook has already created on past occasions that it has considered particularly sensitive such as the presidential elections in Brazil, is dedicated to searching for and eliminating content that violates its community policies by, for example, encouraging violence, promote hatred or spread false information.
The workers of this special center, which operate 24 hours a day, are also in charge of restoring content that has been deleted by mistake.
“We are looking for people who are dedicated to these issues throughout the company and we put them to work together so that they can follow the evolution of the situation live and offer immediate responses,” Monika Bickert, vice president of Facebook, said at a press conference for content policy.
Bickert explained that this center will continue to operate as long as necessary to combat false information and calls for violence.
Since the outbreak of the escalation on May 10, the Gaza Strip militias have fired some 4,000 rockets towards Israel, to which the Israeli army has responded with more than a thousand attacks on targets in the coastal enclave.
The firm led by Mark Zuckerberg revealed the creation of the center at the same conference where it presented the results of its periodic report on compliance with community standards, which reflected the removal of 8.8 million pieces of bullying on Facebook between January and March. 2021 and another 5.5 million on Instagram (owned).
