Facebook never hesitates to copy what works to include it in its network and this time, the inspiration comes from Discord. Mark Zuckerberg’s firm takes over the interface of the famous application on its own in order to modernize its groups.

Facebook is working on a complete overhaul of the interface for its groups. The goal is to create real communities. For it, Meta was inspired by a formula that works: that of Discord.
Facebook has indeed unveiled the first images of this interface and the resemblance to Discord is obvious. The operation follows the main lines, with for example different discussion channels and voice rooms.
Facebook takes inspiration from Discord for its groups
For the moment, these new groups are still far from being finalized but we are already beginning to guess their way of functioning. On the left of the screen we find a pane in which appear the different groups integrated by the user…just like on Discord.

By selecting one, we have access to several written and vocal rooms, all going through Messenger, but also to channels in which the administrator can publish content (like on a classic timeline) or even a calendar to note important events. Of course, there will be the possibility of creating dedicated chats for certain members of the community, such as VIPs or those interested in a common subject. In short, if you know Discord, you see what it will look like.

The goal is to create real communities with members who can get even closer thanks to this new system. However, it will be necessary to see how the thing will be received by users, especially in groups with thousands of members. In any case, this is not the first time that Facebook has taken inspiration from others for its network. We remember in particular the appearance of stories, a feature stolen from Snapchat, or the inclusion of short videos in the news feed, as on Tik Tok.
At the moment, the new group design is still in the testing phase. It should therefore not arrive immediately for the general public.
