Songs like “Last Christmas” and “O dujoyful” belong to Christmas like a long feast. A joint pack singing has to be canceled this year as well, but the musical freelancer rings on the eve of Holy Eve Siegmar Meemken the Christmas spirit finally set in as part of a joint singing on Facebook.
From 7:30 p.m. Meemken, who lives in the desert district, sings live from his home studio, including his own guitar accompaniment. This time, when choosing a song, the focus is on Christmas. “I thought that it would be nice to sing together at Christmas,” says the native of Wallenhorster.
Pack singing at the Alando canceled at short notice
In the past few months, Meemken has regularly attracted over 1,000 listeners to his “Facebook concerts”, each with a different motto. The music freelancer explains that the format was not created entirely voluntarily. Originally he wanted to set up his own pack singing in Hamburg, his home before Corona. “In pack singing, people come together to sing. The idea had years ago David Rauterberg from Münster, who initially rented a disco and threw lyrics on the wall with a projector, which were then sung together Singing already well filled. The appointment in the Ballhaus planned for December 8th had to be canceled due to the corona.
“In my home in the north there has not yet been a team, so I talked to David Rauterberg to set up one. Together with a keyboard player from Nena’s former band, I had my first gig, and Corona started a day later, ”continues Meemken. The concept of pack singing is relatively simple, a room is rented, a projector is turned on and entry is taken. “I wanted to do this professionally, I had already negotiated a contract with the keyboardist,” reports the Wallenhorster, “but then everything fell over us with Corona the ears.”
Music from your own studio
Meemken now lives in Osnabrück again and regularly plays live on Facebook. “I sat around in my studio at home and then thought about going live,” he says. Friends shared his events, so that up to 1,200 people recently attended his “Facebook concerts”. Meemken has lived and worked abroad for 15 years, which can also be seen in his listeners: “It’s nice to have people with us on Facebook that I know from Sweden or Japan.”
On December 23, one day before Christmas Eve, Meemken will go live again, and viewers are invited to sing along again. “People throw in a lot of wishes through the comments. I have a repertoire of 400 to 500 songs, so I can fulfill a few wishes, ”Meemken says happily. According to the season, Christmas carols should be in the foreground. How long Meemken plays, he still leaves open: “Actually, I always play for an hour and a half, but as long as people want, I keep going.”
Rudelsingen possible again in 2022?
For him, it’s not about money: “I don’t take any money for it, I just enjoy entertaining people,” says Meemken. If there were “a few hundred” spectators again, he would be happy. “But I also play because I enjoy it myself.”
In the future, the Wallenhorster hopes for opportunities to bring back pack singing. The first dates have already been set for next June, but: “I can’t imagine that this will work because people will be singing standing next to each other. We need at least 150 – 200 people for that. ”In Osnabrück, the last pack singing in the Alando even gathered 2,000 people, a number that Meemken would like to see again after Corona.
Go to the “Facebook concert” on December 23rd from 7.30 p.m. here.
