Tettau in the Franconian Forest is now officially part of Bavaria on Facebook. So far it had been indicated in the social medium that the Franconian Forest municipality belonged to Thuringia. After the BR coverage last week, things got moving.
Geographical location close to Thuringia, but still in Bavaria
“Due to the geographical location of Tettau, our systems wrongly assigned the community to the state of Thuringia instead of Bavaria. We have corrected this error. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused to the residents of Tettau. Thank you for sharing and informing us to this topic.” Facebook is quoted in a recent press release from the Digital Ministry.
“Apparently our little white-and-blue geography tutor helped the US company. This means that what belongs together in Tettau has also grown together digitally.” Bavaria’s Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU)
“The weeks of struggle was worth it”
And the First Mayor was also satisfied: “The weeks of struggle was worth it, Tettau also belongs to Bavaria on social media,” said Peter Ebertsch (CSU / Alliance for Tettau).
Curious: Kleintettau, a district of Tettau, has always been correctly located in Bavaria by the social network, but not the main town of Tettau. Facebook’s geographic weakness caused some taunts among the population.
Media and political pressure helped
The mayor and other supporters had written to Facebook several times, and Bavaria’s Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU) had intervened to bring about a change. Because Tettau should definitely be assigned to the correct federal state – namely Bavaria. Apparently only because of the media and political pressure Facebook recognized the breakdown. That is why the Tettau market is now also in the correct Free State on Facebook: Bavaria.
