The new function for Facebook and Messenger should be able to conduct video group chats with up to 50 people. Via link, people who do not have a Facebook account can be invited.

Against this background, Facebook has now announced a new function that should make video group chats easier and more natural: “Messenger Rooms”. Messenger rooms should be used directly via Facebook Messenger or Facebook. You can invite people to a video call, even if they don’t have a Facebook account, it says in a communiqué. The rooms will soon work with up to 50 people – without any time limit. If the update is available in this country, rooms can be found on Facebook News feed, groups and Events start and share. There are also plans to add ways to create spaces from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp and Portal.
Messenger Rooms has already been launched in some countries and will be rolled out to the rest of the world in the coming weeks. It is currently unclear when the function will be rolled out in Switzerland.
Facebook is also expanding group calls on Messenger WhatsApp. Group audio and video calls will soon be possible for up to eight people.
