The Facebook News Feed as you knew me is over. The social network has just announced a major overhaul of it, on the iOS and Android applications, which will radically change the way the content will be offered to you.
More exactly, Facebook will offer two different tabs, which will be called Home and Feeds, on the English versions of the app. The Home tab will be a kind of discovery engine. Although not explicitly mentioned, it seems that the goal is to have a flow similar to that of TikTok, where the app offers content relevant to the user, and which does not necessarily come from pages and profiles. followed.
It is also from this Home tab that Facebook users will be able to create Reels, the TikTok-style video format that was created for the Facebook and Instagram apps. It is this tab that opens when you launch the application.
“This is where you’ll discover new content through recommendations in addition to connecting with friends and family.” From Home, you can also create a Reel, see what your connections are sharing on feed and in Stories, and build a community around new and shared interests. Your Home tab is uniquely personalized using our machine learning ranking system. This system considers thousands of signals to help reduce clutter and rank content in the order we think you’ll find most valuable.”explains the social network.
On the other hand, if you rather want to see the publications of the pages, profiles and groups that you follow, you will go to the Feeds tab. Indeed, since the homepage of the app will be more oriented towards the content of profiles or pages that you do not yet follow, it is on the Feeds tab that you can easily find the posts of people and communities to which You are already connected. In addition, Facebook will also offer filters, for example to display only favorites, friends, groups, or even pages.
With this update, Facebook is moving a step closer to TikTok’s model and algorithm, while still providing a way for users to see posts from followed profiles, pages, and groups, like on the News Feed at the old one.
It’s been a while since, like other platforms such as YouTube or Snapchat, Meta has been trying to take inspiration from TikTok. But we did not necessarily expect the social network to redesign the reception of its flagship application.
And Facebook seems in a hurry. Indeed, instead of rolling out this change gradually, the social network indicates that the update will be deployed worldwide as early as next week.
Meanwhile, Instagram is also transforming. Indeed, the social network has just announced that soon, all videos of less than 15 minutes will be automatically posted in the Reels format which, as mentioned above, is inspired by TikTok videos.
