Facebook and the “apricots”, or when guys share naked photos and videos of their girlfriend without their knowledge

Since the global health crisis, social networks have never been so popular… Facebook, for example, can boast of having 1.82 billion daily active users around the world. But with so much traffic, it is difficult for the giant to manage all that is happening on its platform… and this is where it gets complicated, because some people do not hesitate to take advantage of it!

So if you ever come across Facebook groups with cute and delicious names like “Apricot peach”, “Our little personal peaches” or “Ripe apricot”, beware, because it is not whatever you believe! Nothing to do with peaches …

Indeed, according to an alert recently launched by a Brussels student, it would be private groups where members share and exchange intimate images and videos of their girlfriends, without them knowing what is going on.

When peaches invade Facebook …

Like most people her age, 18-year-old Lola enjoys spending time on social media. It was a real shock to discover the existence of these private groups which, according to her, have proliferated on Facebook as well as on other social networks since the confinement. In these groups, members are invited to post sexual content: “Share with guys pictures of your girlfriends, shots, wives, etc. Only real photos. “

And there are apparently many: on Facebook alone, Lola said she spotted three private groups of this kind. But the girl is certain that there are still plenty more, but that they are just elusive despite the mass reports. “The problem is that these groups are constantly changing names”, she lamented in an exchange with the Belgian media DHNET that she contacted to publicly denounce these groups that she describes as odious.

A practice that encourages revenge porn!

For Lola, these private groups of “peach and apricot lovers” should be seriously hunted down and sanctioned by Facebook.

Indeed, the majority of images and videos have surely been shared without the consent of the people photographed or filmed, which clearly poses ethical problems. We could even say that it is akin to revenge porn!

The phenomenon is in any case very toxic in the student environment, because it makes young girls live in the anguish of finding naked photos of them on the Net. Lola also confides that several of her friends have already been victims of these groups. She thus calls on Facebook, but also on the authorities, in the hope that they will be much more reactive to the problem.

Well we wait to see what the giant of social networks plans to do … or not.
