Meta’s social media apps were unavailable to thousands of users across the United States on Wednesday.
More than 18,000 Instagram and around 13,000 Facebook users reported access problems, according to the Downdetector.com website. More failures were also recorded for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. There was initially no information about the cause of the problem. Meta did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
On Wednesday, Microsoft was hit by a network outage that crippled its Azure cloud platform and services like Teams and Outlook, affecting millions of users worldwide.
