Facebook: account lockouts were “technical errors”

In the past few days, for no apparent reason, Facebook has temporarily blocked or at least restricted the accounts of a number of users. It is now said that the cause was a “technical error”.

While Mark Zuckerberg was surfing a lake with the US flag in hand on the American National Day, at least part of his team had to deal with more serious topics. Quite a number of users reported in the past few days that their FB account was temporarily blocked for no apparent reason, or at least that it could only be used to a limited extent.

“Your account is restricted”

The whole thing always combined with the note “Your account is currently restricted. The following option is temporarily limited for you until today at ..: .. o’clock: Share links. If, in your opinion, this does not violate our community standards, please let us know. ”A really plausible reason for the measure, for example a violation of the usage guidelines, could not be identified, at least in the cases made public.

Accordingly, there was a great deal of incomprehension and displeasure among those affected. At the same time, various theories developed about the cause of the account freezes. While new conspiracy theories were immediately launched on relevant sites, other users suspected a hacker attack on Facebook. One of the more plausible approaches was the suspicion of a “Facebook hiccup” aka bug in the software, possibly by testing a new feature.

Facebook apologizes

Now Facebook has expressed itself, relatively briefly but also relatively clearly. A statement said: “Over the weekend, a technical problem resulted in some people having trouble posting on Facebook. We solved the problem as quickly as possible for everyone who was affected and we apologize for the inconvenience.
