Fabyien prepares the Unexpectedly album

How important to you is interpretation?
I am above all a singer-performer, so it is necessarily on this point that I am the most horse. It is of course important for me to be able to connect with a text that I can identify with, even without necessarily being autobiographical. But the most important, in my opinion, is the melody, the variations in intensity, the possibility of unfolding a song like a story. Without that, no magic!

What are your choices on the instrumental level?
For this album, I want to stick to the fundamentals: bass, drums, guitar & piano. I intend to be able to carry these songs on stage, in acoustics. Our arranger for Unexpectedly, Yann Red, perfectly knows how to distill a few touches of electro effects, without overdoing it, without distorting the acoustic spirit!

Would you like to tell us about studio recordings?
Regarding my first album, I have little experience with the studio, although I really appreciate this cozy atmosphere where the magic operates, in the heart of the pot. I recorded a few songs there before, including Bluebirds, which I do not yet know if it will appear on Unexpectedly, because it is the result of a previous collaboration, with Nicolas Fischer.

Why are you doing crowdfunding?
For an independent artist like me, who lives entirely on income from his music, the collective financing is the best way to bring such a project to fruition. It’s also an opportunity to test the enthusiasm of people who have followed me for years, and see how far we can go, together.

What do you want to bring to the public with the album Unexpectedly ?
With Unexpectedly, the idea is to take a step towards my audience, by revealing something more intense than the many covers that I have been able to achieve so far. A lot of people have been waiting for this step of the first album for a long time. I would like to give them more of what I am, and why not open a door to a next album that I would have written myself? Who knows…
